Health and Safety
At Blossom Buds Early Learning, your child’s health, safety, and wellbeing sit at the heart of everything we do.
Families trust us with their most precious little people, and we honour that trust by creating an environment where children feel protected, supported, and ready to thrive.
As a high-quality early learning centre in Wallan, we follow strong health and safety practices across all areas of our service — from hygiene and nutrition to behaviour guidance, emergency procedures, and child protection.
Our Commitment to Child Safety
Child safety is the foundation of our practice. Our team:
completes mandatory child protection training each year
follows up-to-date policies and procedures
maintains open communication where children feel safe to share their thoughts and feelings
works closely with families to create a secure and supportive environment
Every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and heard — and we’re dedicated to making that a daily reality at Blossom Buds.
Health and Illness
To keep all children and educators healthy, we follow clear guidelines around illness and infection control.
Children may be asked to stay home or be collected if they have symptoms such as:
fever more than 38 degrees
vomiting or diarrhoea
rashes or infectious skin conditions
discharge from the nose or eyes
any symptoms that indicate they are unwell or unable to participate in the day
If a child becomes unwell while in our care, we will contact families immediately.
A medical clearance may be required before returning after certain conditions.
Medication
If your child requires medication while at the service, we follow strict processes to keep them safe.
All medication must have a pharmacy label with your child’s name and dosage instructions
Parents must complete a medication form
Medication is stored securely and never kept in bags
Our educators administer medication carefully and in line with regulations.
Sun Safety
We follow SunSmart practices to protect children from UV exposure.
This includes:
applying sunscreen before outdoor play (families may supply their own if preferred)
encouraging wide-brimmed hats
providing shaded areas outdoors
supporting children to wear sun-safe clothing
Children without a hat will be asked to play in shaded areas.
Safety in Our Environment
Our indoor and outdoor spaces are designed to support safe, active, exploratory play. We conduct:
regular safety checks
daily environment inspections
ongoing risk assessments
Our educators supervise children closely, using high visibility, proactive engagement, and strong communication within the team.
Emergency Procedures
We hold regular emergency and evacuation drills so children and staff know exactly what to do in the event of:
fire
lockdown
evacuation
other emergencies
Evacuation maps are displayed throughout the service, and drills are practised in a calm and reassuring way to help children feel comfortable and confident.
Behaviour Guidance
Children learn best in environments where they feel understood and respected.
Our behaviour guidance approach focuses on:
positive reinforcement
modelling respectful communication
helping children build emotional regulation skills
supporting children to recognise their feelings and needs
Our goal is to help children develop self-confidence, empathy and a strong understanding of themselves and others.
Hygiene and Cleanliness
We maintain high standards of hygiene across all areas of the service. This includes:
regular cleaning and sanitisation
safe food handling practices
strong handwashing routines
dedicated spaces for soiled clothing and hygiene items
Health and safety is a shared responsibility, and we work closely with families to support healthy routines at home and at the centre.
A Safe Place to Grow
When children feel safe, supported and cared for, they flourish — and that’s the environment we strive to create every day at Blossom Buds.
We are proud to offer a nurturing, professionally managed childcare centre in Wallan where children can learn, play and blossom with confidence.
